Compress PDF

Shrink a PDF's file size, entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

This tool re-renders each page as a compressed image, so the result is smaller but pages are no longer text-selectable or searchable. If you need to keep selectable text, this isn't the right tool.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Upload the PDF you want to shrink.
  2. Choose a compression level -- higher compression means a smaller file but lower image quality.
  3. Click "Compress PDF" and download the result.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF never leaves your device.

Why isn't the text selectable in the result?

This tool compresses by re-rendering each page as an image at reduced quality. That's what makes the file smaller, but it means text can no longer be selected or searched in the output.

Which level should I pick?

Start with "Low compression" if quality matters most. Use "High compression" for the smallest possible file, e.g. for email attachments.
