How to compare two PDFs

  1. Upload the original PDF on the left, and the revised version on the right.
  2. Click "Compare PDFs". The text of both files is extracted and compared in your browser.
  3. Review the diff -- added text is highlighted green, removed text is struck through in red.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Both PDFs are read and compared using JavaScript running in your browser. Neither file ever leaves your device.

Does this compare the visual layout, or just the text?

Just the text content. The tool extracts each PDF's existing text and diffs it word by word, so it still works correctly even if the revised version has different page breaks or margins than the original.

Will this work on a scanned PDF?

Only if the PDF already has selectable text. A scanned page with no text layer has nothing for the tool to extract or compare -- this isn't OCR.

What if the two files have a different number of pages?

That's fine. The comparison looks at each document's full text rather than matching pages one-to-one, so added or removed pages show up as added or removed text.
